Skincare Tips for Dry and Sensitive Skin

5 Skin Care tips for Dry Sensitive Skin

As we all know, our skin is the largest organ of the body.   It is more exposed to environmental elements than any other organ.   During the summer season, our skin tends to be more hydrated & healthy.   The humid air helps keep the skin moisturized.  As we enter into the monsoon season and then followed by winter, the temperature  change causes the skin to become more chapped, dry & itchy.  Vitamin D is also more scarce as we are less exposed to the sun.  Here are 5 quick skin care tips to help you fight against this climate change.

  1. Avoid Hot Shower: Hot shower can breaks down the lipid barrier in the skin, which results in loss of moisture on the skin. To prevent dry skin, take shorter showers using lukewarm water.

  1. Moisturize: It is a good habit during the monsoon and winter to apply natural oil based moisturizers after every wash (face/hand/body).  This will help retain your skin's moisture during this season.

  1. Choose Natural Cream Over Lotions: Lotions can be less effective and more irritating than the natural creams for dry skin. Select the creams which are enriched with oils such as olive oil, Jojoba oil & Creams with Shea butter.

  1. Apply Natural Lip Balm: Choose healing natural lip balms that work best on chapped lips & protect your lips from other environmental elements.

  1. Wear Gloves, when outside: For those living in the colder parts of the country, I would recommend wearing gloves in the winter.   The hands are the most exposed part of the body and may need extra protection to getting chapped and extremely dry in the winter.  Also, when you are outside in the cold, it is better to wear layers of clothing instead of one heavy sweater.   This allows the skin to breathe and keep it healthy.

By following these simple skin care tips, you can protect the skin from losing its glow and luster.  Stay healthy.  Stay Hydrated.
